This wooden propeller consists of two curved blades. They start narrow at the central hub, widen out in the middle to create as much airflow as possible, and end in a slender, flowing and rounded tip
The fiery, undulating lines of the wood grain are clearly visible along the entire length of the blades, indicating the use of solid wood
It is finished with a warm, glossy finish that has a weathered, vintage character
On the hub is a brass plaque inscribed with the words ‘To The Waterlooville RAFA Club Victoria from G. Turner & friends from Newbury’
This was therefore a donation to the Waterlooville RAFA Club Victoria, a branch of the Royal Air Forces Association in the United Kingdom
The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) clubs were established in large numbers shortly after the Second World War as meeting places for veterans
The typeface on the brass plate, the style of the screws and the specific wording (“G. Turner & friends from Newbury”) are perfectly in keeping with the tradition from the 1950s or 1960s whereby former air force friends donated such wooden presentation pieces to their local club
Only slight signs of wear on the varnish
