Indian Kumkum Tikka Box
This brass box is used in India during Hindu rituals and ceremonies. It is designed to hold sacred powders such as kumkum (vermilion), haldi (turmeric), rice grains or ceremonial cosmetics.
The object is made of solid brass or bronze. It has several fan-shaped or teardrop-shaped compartments that open separately on hinges.
The lids and the central handle are decorated with figures of peacocks, the national bird of India, which symbolises beauty, prosperity and royalty. The legs are often gracefully shaped in the form of elephant legs
