This is a representation of Guanyi , the bodhisattva of compassion in East Asian Buddhism.
The soft, peaceful expression, closed eyes, and feminine features ornate headpiece and stylized hair buns, the intricate floral motifs and the elegance of the facial features indicate a refined craftsmanship, possibly aiming for a Tang dynasty-inspired aesthetic.
The facial features are symmetrical and softly rendered. The back shows tool marks and a more simplified treatment, which is typical for display pieces meant to be viewed from the front.
