Etching ‘In the woods’ by Alfred Bastien
€ 150
This paper work is mounted on a wooden panel and depicts a group of stylised female figures in a composition that shows strong influences from Cubism and abstract art
The colour palette is understated and limited to monochrome shades: black, white, grey and earth tones. This enhances the graphic quality of the work
The brushstrokes are powerful and at times rough, giving the work an expressive texture
The work is characteristic of Dubail’s style in the 1950s, when she sought a balance between the human form and geometric abstraction
Signed lower left and dated 1956, acquired directly from the artist in the 50s
Traces of moisture damage on the left side, however the paper was treated by our restoration studio
