Sculpture ‘Morning reverie’ by Rousseau

€ 200

Sculpture in patinated regula on a wooden base with a faux-marbling effect, made by the French Art Nouveau artist Victor Rousseau (1865–1954)
The work captures the poetic transition from night into morning through classical iconography and fluid, organic shapes
The central subject is an elegant, barefoot young woman representing morning. She is depicted mid-stride atop a rocky outcrop. Her dynamic, classical drapery clings tightly to her torso while billowing dramatically behind her left arm, creating a sense of movement and wind
er left arm is raised to her forehead in a traditional “gazing” or waking gesture, shielding her eyes as if looking out at the rising sun. Her right hand holds a long, slender metallic staff or stylized pitchfork that anchors the composition vertically
At the base of her feet rests a prominently sculpted rooster, positioned with its tail feathers flared open next to stylized morning flora. The rooster serves as a direct symbolic representation of dawn, awakening, and the morning theme
Signed Rousseau at the bottom of the sculpture
Brass plate with title and sculptors name on the wooden base
In good vintage condition, small crack on rooter’s feet and some age related wear on the wooden base
