Identical polychrome vases in gilded ceramic and their cylinders
The vase is decorated with Lohans, who are the enlightened disciples of the Buddha and whose spiritual duty is to protect the Buddhist teachings
The raised, tactile details in the gilding and the clothing have been created using the moriage technique. This involves applying liquid clay (slurry) to the vase before it is gilded and painted, creating a stunning three-dimensional effect.
Marked Seizan at the bottom, which is a traditional pottery maker
Slightly patinated at the top and bottom but no chips  in overall very good vintage condition
Early 20th century Japanese craftmanship (Taisho or Showa period)
