Japanese kutani ware from the Meji period
€ 350
Earthware anthropomorphic zodiac figures representing the Ox and the Ram
These kind of figures were crafted exclusively for elite tombs during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD)
They served as cosmic guardians, symbolically arranged inside burial chambers to chart the progress of time and protect the deceased in the afterlife
Although these have traces of original white slip and earth-toned mineral pigments remain visible across their weathered surfaces, they are probably replicas from a later period
